How much does it cost to have a door fitted in South Africa?

To answer this question there are a few factors to take into consideration and things that you as a client needs to know when you are looking for a door fitting contractor.

The first very important information to know is “as I call it” the 3 different price categories in the South African building industry –

1. Services from the street and poor areas

This category is solely focused on the price and is flooding the building industry market of South Africa with cheap and unrealistic labor prices just to get the job.

– This is by far the cheapest option but has a very high risk and the chance of disappointment and frustration

– Has no overheads and relies on the client to supply all materials

– Are trademarked with very low-skilled workers and craftsmanship without any guarantee or after-sale service.

2. Services from the Handyman and Developer / Construction industry

This category is also primarily price driven and is flooding the building industry market of South Africa with cheap and unrealistic labor prices just to get the job.

– This category has a “low to high risk to client” and many times cause the client to be intimately involved to ensure quality work.

– Claims to know everything of everything and most of the time will take on too much just to get the work

– Are trademarked with average skilled workers and craftsmanship without any guarantee or after-sale service.

3. Services from the Specialist – like DOORZ

This category is also primarily focused on value and the concept of real value has almost completely died out because of the immense pressure on the building industry by the above categories.

– This category holds very little risk for the client but is not the cheapest option

– Has overheads to serve the client with peace of mind and provides real after-sale services to the client.

– Are trademarked by highly skilled workers and experts.

To take into consideration

Here is some other important information to know that also determines the cost of door-fitting in South Africa.

Safety First

It is extremely important for you as the client to know the quality of tools the person or business will be used to fit your door or frame because, in my 22 years in this industry, I have witnessed some severe injuries and damages because of faulty equipment and low-skilled workers. There is nothing so stressful to witness a life-threatening injury or severe damage to your property by those who come to do the work.  At DOORZ we only use expensive and thoroughly checked tools and equipment to ensure the same result every time – EXCELLENCE.

Different grades of door quality

When it comes to solid wooden doors, It is very important to know that most of the major door manufacturers produce 3 types of door quality.

1 Year-guarantee doors that are a combination of pine and B-grade hardwood that is designed as the cheaper or more affordable option.

5 Year-guarantee doors that are fully built from B-grade hardwoods like Red-grandis or Meranti and is the most popular because it offers great quality for less

10 Year-guarantee doors are the most expensive because it is being built from A-grade hardwoods like Red-grandis or Meranti and offers to best durability and stability.

This is important information for this might also influence the pricing element and why some door fitting services and suppliers might be cheaper than others.

Hi Charles, that is the unfortunate reality of the building industry in South Africa. Many unskilled people and foreigners enter the building industry every year trying to earn a living and to get work, they push down the labour prices with unrealistic pricing. In the past 15 years alone, this reality has flooded the South African building industry market. This has caused a big divide between the skilled and unskilled especially when it comes to pricing.
